Sashakt Divyang 2019

An Initiative by Ladli Foundation Trust — Supported by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India

Sashakt Divyang is a national-level initiative designed to empower persons with disabilities through employment, awareness, and community support. The programme brings together government bodies, private companies, and civil society to create real and lasting change in the lives of Divyangjan across India.

The 2019 edition was held on 13th November 2019 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. It was inaugurated by Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Hon'ble Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, and attended by senior government officials, corporate leaders, disability rights activists, and approximately 1,800 persons with disabilities.

What the Programme Did

The programme featured a mega job fair with more than 40 companies and MSMEs, giving persons with disabilities direct access to employment opportunities. The first Rashtriya Prernadoot Awards were presented to celebrate individuals and organizations making a real difference, including IAS officers, disability activists, and healthcare institutions. On the same day, a panel discussion on the RPWD Act 2016, cultural performances by Divyangjan, a motivational theater play, and a public signature campaign were also organized. The programme's reach went well beyond the event through street plays in Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram, college debate competitions, flash mobs, and a large social media campaign. More than 1,500 persons with disabilities also received an exclusive kit along with a printed copy of the RPWD Act 2016, ensuring they are fully aware of their legal rights.
