SAMUHIK KUAN PUJAN
Tradition Meets Transformation
Celebrating the Arrival of Every Child in Jaipur, Rajasthan
In the heart of Rajasthan, we are turning a centuries-old tradition into a movement for equality and health. Through the M-RITE (Momentum Routine Immunisation Transformation and Equity). Project, Ladli Foundation has pioneered the Samuhik Kuan Pujan (Collective Well Worship), traditionally a ceremony reserved for boys, and opened it to every girl child. By blending cultural celebration with essential healthcare, we ensure that every child’s life is celebrated and protected from day one.
Our Approach
Healing Through Heritage
Celebrating Daughters : We reclaim the Kuan Pujan ceremony to honor the birth of girls, restoring their dignity and challenging gender bias at the roots.
Healthcare in the Community : We don't wait for families to visit a clinic. We bring professional medical care and routine immunizations to the heart of the village celebration.
Trusting the Elders : We partner with Dai Maas (traditional birth attendants) and local leaders, ensuring that modern medicine is delivered through the hands the community trusts most.
IMPACT
| For the Mother | For the Child | For the Community |
|---|---|---|
| Dignity & Respect: Mothers are honored as their daughters are celebrated with the same fervor traditionally reserved for sons. | A Healthy Start: We achieve 100% vaccination coverage by integrating shots into the ceremony. | Breaking Taboos: By changing how we celebrate birth, we shift the community’s mindset toward gender equality. |
| Support Systems: Mothers gain direct access to frontline health workers in a familiar, comfortable setting. | Preventive Care: Early engagement helps ensure children are protected against preventable diseases before they leave the village. | Stronger Systems: We bridge the gap between ancient customs and modern healthcare standards. |
KEY FEATURES
Cultural Sensitivity : We honor local values while introducing life-saving health standards.
Family Participation : These events bring the whole family together, turning immunisation into a shared responsibility.
Sustainable Health : By making healthcare part of the celebration, we reduce fear and clinic-hesitancy often found in rural areas.
